It’s hard to imagine living without the global positioning system (GPS). Not only does it help us to find addresses and get directions, but it can also act as a tracking device to find lost or stolen items. GPS dates to the 1950s when research scientists used it for military purposes to find longitude and latitude. Yet, GPS didn’t reach its full operational capability until the 1990s. Today, GPS is found in a variety of products from cell phones and automobiles to golf accessories and vision recording eyewear. It’s even found in earthmoving equipment for accurate digital guidance. Empire Services is excited to announce we have expanded into the automated grading platform (also known as GPS). We’ve put it work on our latest project in Lancaster County, PA.
Before GPS, workers had to rely on stakes and lasers to guide machinery along with making several passes to achieve the proper grade. Now, this technology enables workers to get the job done right on the first pass with ease. Empire Services was contracted by P J Dick to provide a variety of excavation services to prep the jobsite for a new warehouse. The project also included a wet detention basin, road, parking lot and utilities.
The project began with the demolition of the existing structure to make way for the new warehouse. Once down, we began the earthmoving work. One of our bulldozers is equipped with GPS, which we used to grade the new building pad. We also excavated the foundation and graded and stoned the base for the foundations. Empire Services was also tasked with paving the parking lot, installing a storm sewer, and providing landscaping.
As we expand our fleet, we can provide more services to our customers. On this project, our new GPS equipment provided precision guidance saving time and money. At Empire Services, you can count on exceptional excavation services to get your project off to a smooth start!
